UFC Sacramento results: Urijah Faber calls out Henry Cejudo following 46-second KO win

Urijah Faber is back.

“The California Kid” returned from retirement on Saturday night and needed just 46 seconds to knock out Ricky Simon in the co-main event at UFC Fight Night from Sacramento. The lightning quick KO is now the fastest finish in Faber’s Hall of Fame career.

“I learned that from Song Yadong,” Faber said about his knockout punch. “Ricky Simon is a nice guy but he had a big target there.”

He may have been returning from nearly three years away but Faber was more than ready for war as soon as he stepped out into the center of the Octagon.

Almost immediately, Faber and Simon started cracking each other with punches in a contest to see who would fall down first.

Simon managed to clip Faber with a solid punch that seemingly staggered the 40-year old veteran but a split second later he was right back in the pocket trading shots.

Finally with Simon still throwing punches, Faber unleashed a huge right hand that landed flush, sending his opponent face first down to the canvas. Simon tried to scramble free to recover but Faber was all over him with punches.

The end came after Faber’s relentless barrage saw Simon’s head whip back a couple of times consecutively and that was enough for referee Mike Beltran to stop the fight.

The win over a highly touted prospect like Simon immediately makes Faber a player in the bantamweight division once again and it couldn’t have come at a better time after reigning champion Henry Cejudo mentioned his name following his title fight victory in June.

“I think Henry Cejudo called me out a little bit ago. I heard Dana [White] say that I was old. I know Dana White was old when he was 40 but I’m a young man. Dana was old when he was 28. Come on, Dana. Look at me,” Faber said.

“Henry, what’s up dog, I remember 10 years ago when you challenged me to a fight as a friendly gesture and I’m down to get down in there and mix that up.”
