UFC on ESPN+ 21 reactions: Winning and losing fighters on social media

Since the early days when the sport was anything but a mainstream endeavor, the MMA industry has thrived and survived through various websites, forums, and – perhaps most importantly – social-media platforms.

Fighters interact with fans, each other and many more through the likes of Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, which helps outsiders get a deeper look into the minds of the athletes.

Following Saturday’s UFC on ESPN+ 21 in Moscow, several of the winning and losing fighters, along with their coaches, training partners or family members, took to social media to react to the event or share a message with supporters.

Check out some of those reactions.

This Saturday went by well, had the trip of a life time. And got to spend it with people who been with me from the beginning. We Went to a country I never thought I would have ever been. And beat one of there own in his backyard. So many emotions going into this fight. So many doubts, so many people thinking maybe this guy had to much experience for me. I mean he had over 32 fights to my 10 and had fought some big names in the ufc. But once again we proved them wrong. I had somethings I needed to prove to myself. I had some demons I needed to face and overcome. Well I face them head on and i proved what I needed to prove. So I’m putting everyone on notice I AM HERE TO STAY!!! And you all will feel me.. 💯💯💪🏽 thank you to my coaches @rothweileradam @carlsongracieteam and my manager @elguero13_714 for believing in me and having my back wherever I go. I am a product of the things you guys teach me. And every fight we will only get better. #Ateam #CarlsonGracieTeam #ThePredator #TopMountApparel #CameFromNothing #itsonlythebeginning

Artem Lobov says feud with Khabib Nurmahomedov is far from over

Artem Lobov and Khabib Nurmagomedov have history, and it appears their feud is far from over.

At UFC 223, Nurmagomedov and his team went up to Lobov. There, he slapped the SBG Ireland product in the face. It immediately caught the attention of Conor McGregor who is Lobov’s teammate. The Irishman then went to Brooklyn and threw a dolly at the fighter bus containing ‘The Eagle’.

The rivalry was expected to continue when Lobov was set to fight Zubaira Tukhugov, a teammate of Nurmagomedov. But, after Tukuhgov was suspended for his role in the UFC 229 post-fight melee, and the fight was off, Lobov asked for his release. He then signed with Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship.

Even though “The Russian Hammer” is focused on BKFC and his upcoming fight against Jason Knight, he says the feud between him and Nurmagomedov is far from over.

“Definitely, things are not fine,” Artem Lobov said on Chael Sonnen’s YouTube channel. “There’s some unsettled business there, and I think in due course it will all be settled. But as of now, it’s definitely not. Not even close.”

Yet, Artem Lobov says there are some positives that the beef is not settled. One positive is the fact he is getting more fans from it. And, in turn, is making more money. So, he is happy with where it is at.

“It’s Khabib’s fans obviously. I have a lot of Russian fans, myself, that support me – and obviously he has a lot of guys that support him,” he said. “So obviously his guys that support him, they always have a lot to say about me, but I don’t mind. It keeps my name in the headlines, it keeps my name in the Internet searches. And, as a result, it keeps my salary nice and high.”

Whether or not Lobov and Nurmagomedov will ever settle their feud is to be seen. But, the rivalry between the two camps seems to be as heated as ever.

Nate Diaz responds to fan who lost his rent money betting on him at UFC 244

Nate Diaz has responded to a fight fan who allegedly lost his rent money betting on the Stockton native in the UFC 244 main event.

Diaz was defeated by Jorge Masvidal by way of third round TKO, this after the cage side physician called a stop to the scrap due to lacerations on the eye of the ‘Stockton Slugger’.

It was a tough loss for Nate, who immediately called for an immediate rematch with ‘Gamebred’.

While Masvidal seemed interested in the rematch UFC President Dana White did not share the same enthusiasm.

With that, Nate Diaz said he could see the “f*ckery” beginning and said it was time for him to once again step away from the fight game.

Most recently the youngest Diaz brother assured fans that he was not retiring but just taking a break. He also took a shot at Masvidal, suggesting that ‘Gamebred’ wanted out of the fight in the third round.

Diaz also took the time to respond to a fight fan who claimed that he had lost his rent money betting on Nate to win at UFC 244.

Check that out below courtesy of @Killashaww on Twitter:

“Nate I lost my rent money betting on you now I’m sleeping in my car till I can come up with my half.” the Fan wrote on Instagram.

“Don’t trip I got ur bitchass 💯” Nate Diaz replied.

It would appear that Diaz is offering to refund the fan for the money he lost, but that is just speculation at this point.

Now that Nate Diaz has revealed that he is NOT retiring, who would you like to see him fight next? Sound off in the comments section PENN Nation!

UFC releases former lightweight title challenger Gilbert Melendez

Gilbert Melendez is no longer a member of the UFC roster.

Melendez (22-8 MMA, 1-6 UFC) was released from the promotion following five straight losses. The 37-year-old Melendez confirmed his release with ESPN on Monday night after an initial report by MMA Fighting.

A former Strikeforce lightweight champion, Melendez ran through most of his opposition in the well-regarded promotion. Melendez’s key wins in Strikeforce include Jorge Masvidal, Josh Thomson (twice), Shinya Aoki, and Tatsuya Kawajiri.

Upon the UFC’s purchase and subsequent absorbance of Strikeforce, Melendez was added to the roster. Holding the Strikeforce title at the time, Melendez was granted an immediate title shot at then-lightweight champion Benson Henderson.

In the five-round main event of UFC on FOX 7 in April 2013, Melendez lost a split decision to Henderson. The defeat was highly controversial among MMA fans and media alike.

In his return to the cage at UFC 166 in October 2013, Melendez and Diego Sanchez engaged in an instant classic. A spirited 15 minutes turned in by the two men resulted in a fight many MMA observers believe to be one of the most exciting in the promotion’s history.

After he picked up his first UFC victory, Melendez earned a second crack at the 155-pound title – this time against then-champ Anthony Pettis in December 2014 at UFC 181. Melendez lost the bout by second-round submission due to guillotine choke.

From 2015-19, Melendez competed four times. In that span, Melendez dropped decisions to Eddie Alvarez, Edson Barboza, Jeremy Stephens, and most recently Arnold Allen at UFC 239 in July.
