UFC 241 weigh-in results: Heavyweight title fight set; Nate Diaz and Anthony Pettis on point

Daneil Cormier vs Stipe Miocic UFC 241 official weigh-in

The UFC 241: Cormier vs. Miocic 2 bouts are all official following Friday’s weigh-in festivities in Anaheim, Calif.

The card is topped by UFC heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier’s second defense of his belt. He’ll put the title on the line against the man he took it from, Stipe Miocic, in a headlining rematch.

Neither man had any issue on the scale. Cormier weighed236.5 pounds, while Miocic tipped the scale at 230.5 pounds.

The UFC 241 co-main event casts a huge shadow over the event with the return of Nate Diaz after nearly three years on the sidelines. He returns from a loss to Conor McGregor by jumping right back into the deep end of the welterweight pool with a fan-favorite match-up with former lightweight champion Anthony Pettis.

Diaz hit the 170-pound mark on the nose, while Pettis weighed in at 169.5 pounds.

Yoel Romero and Paulo Costa square off in a pivotal middleweight contenders bout. Costa weighed in early at 186 pounds. Romero was the final fighter to step on the scale, weighing 184.5 pounds.

Manny Bermudez and Casey Kenney were both struggling to make weight for their preliminary bantamweight bout, so they negotiated a 140-pound catchweight ahead of the weigh-in. Both fighters easily hit the mark for the 140-pound catchweight limit, so neither was penalized.

Khabib Nurmagomedov: Conor McGregor should be arrested for pub punch

UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov believes rival Conor McGregor should be in jail for punching an elderly man in an Irish pub.

Video surfaced this week of McGregor punching a man in an Irish pub, allegedly after the man refused a free pour of Proper No. 12 Irish whiskey. The whiskey is McGregor’s personal brand that has lit up the spirits industry.

Nurmagomedov’s issues with McGregor go way back before any of this happened, although the incident in question happened in April of this year. The two have long been at odds and it all boiled over when McGregor attacked a bus full of fighters, including Nurmagomedov at UFC 223. Nurmagomedov then climbed out of the Octagon after soundly defeating McGregor at UFC 229 in October of 2018 to fight with the Irishman’s cornerman in the crowd.

For this latest incident, coupled with McGregor’s past, Nurmagomedov was incredulous that Irish officials had not arrested McGregor and that U.S. officials hadn’t revoked his visa into the country.

While McGregor is currently on the sidelines, Nurmagomedov is slated to unify his UFC lightweight championship with the interim belt held by Dustin Poirier. Nurmagomedov and Poirier will headline UFC 242, the fight promotion’s Sept. 7 return to Abu Dhabi.

UFC president Dana White hasn’t indicated that any action is forthcoming from the UFC for McGregor’s latest out-of-the-cage actions, instead saying that his return to the Octagon depends on what happens when Nurmagomedov fights Poirier in September. McGregor is currently expected to fight either late this year or early 2020.

Nate Diaz will return to the octagon for the first time since 2016 to take on former lightweight champion Anthony Pettis in a welterweight bout at UFC 241 on August 17 in Anaheim, California.

In his last outing, Diaz lost to Conor McGregor by majority decision in the UFC 202 main event. He hopes to prove that he hasn’t missed a step in the time off when he takes on “Showtime” at the Honda Center.

Anthony Pettis didn’t condemn Conor McGregor after a video was released showing the former UFC champion punching a pub patron in Ireland, allegedly for turning down a free drink of his Proper No. Twelve Irish whiskey.

“I know how drunk people treat us (fighters). It’s crazy!” he stated.

That said, Pettis didn’t fully support McGregor taking a swing at the pub patron either.

Nate Diaz was not at the UFC 241 Ultimate Media Day, and thus did not pose for his face-off with Anthony Pettis. He left UFC president Dana White to stand in for him.

Fear not, however, as the fight doesn’t appear to be in jeopardy. We are told that after an extended day with reporters on Wednesday, Diaz was granted UFC approval to skip the media day on Thursday and the fight will go on as planned.
